Yes I normally critize people for not searching, so I know when I take the time later tonight to search I'll come up with what I'm looking for. but in the meantime....
Recently bought what I thought was 1 male, 1 female black convict. Must have been right, cause there is a spot in the tank where they seldom if ever both leave alone, and today I look closely at the rock, and boom ton of eggs everywhere.
I"ve never had fish spawn/breed, so am totally new to this..
any and all information regarding this situation and how to handle it (if I want any of them to survive) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks ahead

Just covor the intake of you filter with nylon or small mesh netting. The parents will do tyhe rest. They even chew up food and spit it out for the babies! Good luck.....

I dont do a thing for my cons, they are great parents, I would recommend removing the babies before they can swim, they are hard to catch later, next thing you know youre overrun with cons!!

since there are no other preds in the tank at the moment, just cover my filter, and feed and perform maintance like normal? sounds too easy...lol
also I haven't even finished setting up the tank yet. I have some new driftwood and rocks I was gonna add tonight. Well I am obviously not gonna mess with anything near that side of the tank, but will I be ok to rework on the other side of the tank?

Do what you need to do. Act like the cons aren't even there. The parents may bite you but other than that, they will be fine. One day you will see a pair of cons breeding and protecting against all odds and still make it, and then you will see they are the easiest fish to breed on planet earth!......

could or should I be able to add any fish to the tank during this time? or should I wait till after the fry are getting larger?

standard 90. nothing in it right now, but the pair of convicts and small pleco

I would wait till they calm down, then put in what you feel like (it is always a gamble) I have found success in introducing more than just one at a time. It seems to start the pecking order over as opposed to putting a fish in to get his ass kicked for having the nerve to move in UN invited.Thats just me though......And be ready to seed your tank with extra BB the ease the filters after the intro of multiples......

now, the eggs haven't hatched yet, but the female whos been watching over them is picking at them, and they are slowly dissipearing
