Well my dat did very good for the first night but then he's been unstable and black for 2 days now. He hasn't eaten just hanging out in the corner or on the surface. Are dats usually unstable when introduce into a new aquarium? There were 4 to choose but I chose him because of his stripe pattern and more compact. He was kind of dull looking from the get go but I figure the leichartdi was picking on him since he had bite marks. The others were more bright and stable but were housed with a school of Jardinis. In my tank he is housed with an african tiger fish with no hiding spots. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Add plants/driftwood for covering hideout places. You can also add more dats to keep it company.

:iagree:
More hiding spots and more dats should make him come around.

I read from a few members on here saying to have less hiding spots is better.

I agree that adding more Dats would make it more comfortable.

Read all u want mate. Thers lots of good advice within this forum. However, in my opinion, getting Dats stable, is relative to one's Tank size, water quality, tank mates, decor and lighting and feding regime. I find background and substarte arn't as influential as the others I mentioned.
What ever u try, make sure u give it time, don;t keep changing stuff on a weekly basis. Try a set up for may be 12 weeks and don;t interfere. Tigers ake time to get used to changes or will sometimes adapt very quickly after a few days.
I have no hiding spaces, just some giant vallis, which tigers swim behind, but are still clearly visible. 1 piece of wood for the plecs, and thats it.:D
