Black Devil Wyckii Catfish

How do you guys feel about Black Devil Wyckii Catfish (Hemibagrus wyckii)? How big of an aquarium does one need? What fish can share a tank with one?

heard they have the attitude of a yarelli and will annhilate any fish in the tank witht hem, even bigger fish tearing fins off. heard of people keeping them in community tanks when small but evetually they just get to aggresive. biggest ive seen was about 3ft but i imagine they can reach 4 or 5

Obviously was a 3 foot Wyckii, what with them multiple sources citing their max size as well under three feet.

This is my favourite catfish. Possibly the most fearless and aggressive fish i have come across. It wont think twice about trying to bite you. Great fish but definitely for people with a big species tank.

my fault, sorry about that... was just assuming since id seen a 3ft that they got bigger, thay had the 33incher... so not quite 3ft... at a petstore near by. sadly it died a few weeks later

Yes, according to planet catfish!

I kept one till it was about 13"
Showed no sign of aggression in my tank though and it was in fact picked on by a Synodontis sp -_-"

Basically it minded it's own biz and hid at the driftwood all the time.

Then again, I think mine is either the exception to the rule or it has not yet turned aggressive.

I sold it off in the end as it was bought by my hubby who thought it looked cute and it isn't the type of cat I will keep.

At the store where I work, we had one in a 700g display tank. He never caused a problem. When we redid the tank and moved him to a 180, he began killing every fish in the tank. Everyday another fish would have a huge chunk missing or be in half. The cat would attack nets and hands too. In the end, we rehomed him for next to nothing with the understanding that we would not take him back. He was about 26" at that point.
