guys, does the black dorsal fins on some cichla individuals signify their sex?

i've seen them on mono's, ocellaris, temensis & orinos (well more dark blue than black).. do they tell the sex of the cichla on these species as well?

No it doesn't signify their sex. The black occurs when they mature. Monos get it a lot. The only way to truly tell a male from a female pbass is to Vent it.

ic, so its individual color? cuz in temensis i've seen most with no black at all in their dorsal fins and recently one with a really black dorsal.. almost completely covered the dorsal..

Yes individual color. 3 out of my 4 bigger monos have the black dorsal the big one doesn't. They usually get the black dorsal when its feeding time or they are "wrestling" with one another. Just my observations.
