The new Cabellas at rout 41 & interstate 94 in Indiana, has a Black Gar in its tank. I belive its an Aligator Gar. They also have a mounted Alligator Gar that is over 200 lbs on the wall.

there are several reasons why the gar is black. one is that it's maturing, and turns pretty dark colour. or maybe it's just cause the tank colour etc makes it that way. another is that it's a mellanistic morph. just like the gold gars, just that it's black.pics would be cool.

sounds cool. Can you get pics?

is it black or is it just a dark colored gar? big difference. if it is actually black it may be melanistic. i also think they turn dark when they are ready to spawn. we need pics!

yea if the gator gar is black that would be really cool

I was also there this weekend, but somehow missed seeing the gar. Keep in mind that these fish have just recently been put into these tanks, I am sure that stress is playing a factor in it's coloration.

shouldn't stress be giving the gar a pale colouration over a dark one?
