I have just recently set up a new freshwater tank and used feeder guppies for the cycling process; all went well and added my first new permanent residents last night, a Rainbow Shark and a Black Knife Ghoast. All seems to be well accept the ghoast isn't swimming around very much and lying on his side quite often. I have never had a ghoast before and am wondering if this is normal behavior? I'll be keeping a close eye on him all day!

That's a bgk youll almost never see him. Also is he lying on his side in the middle of the tank or is he under cover like underneath something. If its underneath something or in a cave that's normal if its just lying sideways on the bottom you've got a problem. Also they are nocturnal so will hide during the day so make sure you have a cave for theM. And they can grow quite big.

I need to spark up my fish life

ive never had one but I have clowns and royals. sometimes they swim sidewase but not toomuch. he might be trying to finde a place to hide. they are cave dweller fish and need some tipe of covereage or hide out. sometimes if there not used to the light it can stress them out and that could be a reason why hes acting funny.

I built a cave in the tank spicifically for the BGK but he hasn't found it yet. He has found a spot under a piece of driftwood I have put in there and that's where he is lying around.

normal. my brother had one for 17-18 years and it was always laying somewhere, usually under something, and only came out for food and when the light was low.

I would make sure you have several places for him to hide. They prefer low light too. I have 2 of them that I've had a couple years and both behave differently. One hides most of the time in the darkest areas of the tank and the other likes to lay in the plants up high but out in the open. At night they are the most active fish I have ever seen and crazy fast swimmers.
