i had always wanted one and after reading comments on liveaquaria...they seem like they don't have EXTREMELY SPECIFIC needs. One said a 30 gal is enuff.
Plz tell me if it's a good idea.<==='> (this is a Knifefish)

30 gallon is not big enough in the long run. Not especially hard to keep. Biggest issue is getting them to eat when small. If there is competition you may have to target feed at night to start off. Great fish, lots of fun.

well i wont tell my parents that and eventually ill end up with a 50 gal and an empty 30 for other stuff...LOL!
But it'll be alone and come around 3-5'' cuz thats what I see at the lfs. what non-live foods can I feed?

I started mine with frozen brine and bloodworms. As it grew so did the size and types of food. Now it will eat most anything. They do like to hide and are not fond of bright lights. Lots of plants help and if you want to see it more get either a clear tube or place a flat rock against the front glass. Eventually it will come out more.

Mine is in a planted tank with sand and driftwood. Temp is in the 82-84 range. A bit high but had it up to combat ich and never lowered it much. As it gets bigger it will eat anything that fits in its mouth, and it has a surprisingly large mouth.

IMO a ghost knife could be kept in a 55 gallon no less, unless its small and you upgrade in the near future. I had 2 breeding pairs in a 300 gallon, mine prefered higher temps. any more info just pm me
mine liked to play around my handsand my biggest male i beleive stayed in my hand for a few minutes.
becuase i had shrimps in my hand! haha they are cool little creatures really one of my favorite fish.

They do good in planted tanks and lots of hiding spots. Temperatures around 82F-84F. They seem to like frozen bloodworms and freeze-dried tubifex worms. They can be trained to eat out of your hands.

I've found it to be asy to keep. Eats small pellets and frozen foods, has no problem competing for food in a tank full of loaches
