Hello, have a goodlooking blackghost in my tank and he/she keeps growing.
Is around 17-18centimeters.

How large must a black ghost be to be able to eat small fishes such as paracheiron axelrodi and poecilia reticulata?

Is it a good or bad idea to keep these small fishes for the black ghost to eat?

Regards

if it can fit it into its mouth it can eat it. that is how it is with basically all fish. you should try to get it onto a staple food like a pellet or stick. feeders regardless of what kind dont have enough nutritional value.

If those fish are the size of it's head, it'll be snack time.

The idea is to have some small fishes the BG can go out and hunt at night while i sit nextby and watch, not to replace ordinary food.

Its quite interesting to watch the clown loaches and pterophyllum scalare hunt down and eat newborn xiphophorus macalatus, would be fun to see the black ghost do the same.

if there small enough to fit into its mouth you ought to be able to get a moon light and watch it scarf them down.

Yeah, I was sticking my finger in my brother's tank last night and his 4" BGK tried to eat my finger, he couldn't do anymore but nible though.

Mine likes bloodworms and pellets, I only seen it eat a guppy once, and that was because it was in the BGKs' striking range. BGKs are more opportunity predators though.

But usually some bgk will eat the eyes of other fishes that are bigger than them. I've seen my late bgk do that to the gupppies when he was small.

Yes BGKs can be mean. But if they eat eyes and things like that, I dont know if they are actually trying to eat them, moreso they are probably just beating them up. I had a BGK beat the crap out of almost every fish in my tank. It beat the crap out of (2) silver tip sharks pretty bad. Their fins and bodies were all bit up.

The BGK I have now is pretty mellow though. Also, just today he ate some freeze-dried Krill. So now thats another food he eats. He wont eat Tubifex Worms though.

I threw a few ghost shrimps in the tank once and one was even by him and he bobbed it with his head a few times but wouldnt eat it.

So some of them are just opportunity predators.
