I am just now setting up a 110g. tank. It is going to house my pleco, and black ghost knife. I was wanting to list a few fish, and see what you thought would and wouldn't be acceptable with my bgk.

Tinfoil Barbs
Oppoline guaramies
Bala Sharks
Fire or Tire Track Eel
Oscars
Pictus Catfish

These are a few I was thinking of as possible fish mates. Do I have any concerns with these fish? And just a side note, I'm not going to get all of them. These are just some thoughts of possible tank mates. Thanks for the help.

when the oscar gets big enough i will probably eat it
gouramis will be fine
balas will be fine
eel might nip at his fins
pictus depending on size might be OK

hey thanks, one fish I forgot to include was a clown knife. I know it is an agressive fish, but I just don't know. Also my bgk is 10-12" long. would that make a difference in compatability with a clown knife, or oscar?

No it wont make a difference-My clown grew to 10 inches in the matter of 6 to 8 months!!!!!After a year and a half I have a 16 to 17 inch beast that would or could easily kill a bgk at the 11 to 12 inch mark.I keep a tyre track eel with mine bgk-the eel is 24 inches and the bgk is 4.5 to 5 inchs-No problems at all going on!!!!!I also have a pimelodus blochi that i keep with mine as well. The oscar will eventually kill your bgk.Gourami's and barbs will be fine as long as they are not small enough to fit in his mouth!!!!!

it will definatly put a hurtin on the BGK

my theory for agressive fish is to never put two of the same species in together just to be safe. idk much about knife fish but i think they would probably kill each other, but i hear they are pretty timid and keep to thereselves. but the oscar might cause some problems eventually. maybe some severums?

Ok, I'll scratch the oscar, and clown knife off the list. I definately don't want to loose my bgk. I am glad to here that your tire track gets along good though, I might decide on that one.

Can you tell me if the bala sharks, or tinfoil barbs would be ok. I'd like to have a couple fish that don't hide all the time.

i think the tinfoil barbs and the bala sharks would both be fine with the bgf as long as they arent too small when you put them in the tank.

Good idea to scratch off the Oscar and the Clown Knife. The Oscar can be an aggressive cichlid and the Clown Knife wouldn't like any other knives except when 2 of the same species are raised together. Then it MIGHT work. Pictus Cats, Balas, and Tin Foils are very active fast moving fish while the Black Ghost Knife likes to just hang out. Barbs are known to be nippy, but I'm not sure with Tin Foils just because I don't have any experience with them. Balas would be fine. Pictus Cats are curious and may nip at the BGK just to see if it's edible if he's not moving around. Gouramis would be good as long as you have a good amount of space and hiding place for you BGK. And I think the Eel would be ok with your BGK. Good Luck :icon_naruto10:

Thank you for the help everyone. This site, and the people here never cease to amaze me at how much collective knowledge can be found. Thanks again for the help.
