Hi

Wonder if you can help me...

I have a Black Ghost knife fish that acts very odd....
He floats at the top of the tank vertically for hours and hours.... and doesnt even budge when i go near the tank! (no hes not dead)
I'm worried he might be unwell or unhappy
Is this the normal behavior of a BGK?
I also put some food in the tank last night and he didnt go near it :-(

Help!

DO you have any hiding spots for your bgk? What did you feed him/her before he acts this way? Did you just bought your bgk? Have youput pet medications in your tank?

He has a cave, and also likes to hide under a collaseum that i have.... he also has a secret hiding place that I dont even know about! He has been doing this vertical flaoting for about a week.... i never changed his food.... still feed him fish flakes... I had two other BGK they both died, maybe he is grieving? I've only had him for about 1.5 months... havnt put medications in the tank... just the stuff that purifies the water....

I have two rather plump white fish in the tanks..... there nose are turned upwards... (not sure what they are called)... but it seems they think they own the tank as always whizzing around and gulping up all the food before any other fish gets a look in....!

Is it floating vertical behind something or just out in the open?

Maybe that's where it feels most comfortable.

hmm try giving him bloodworms. i had one when i was a little kid and i had him on frozen foods. if i remember correctly they use an electric pulse to locate foods. have you seen them eat flakes in the past?

I have a glass knife thats always in the same spot, in the back right next to the filters. And Ive never see him eat, theyre night eaters. But I feed him live shrimp & sinking shrimp pellets. I just bought a plant for his corner monday & he loves it!

hanging out by the heater and filter might be because of the electical current leaking from these devices, do you have any spares? try removing or relocating them and see if it follows them. i have heard of bgk's having strange behaviors caused by leaking electrical currents from heaters and powerheads.
