So I just got this black ghost knife fish and I need to know 1: how fast do they grow? 2: will being in a 10 gallon tank until big enough to join their tank mates stunt their growth? 3: how big do they need to be to go into a tank with two 10-12" oscars? 4: are the oscars going to be too aggressive for the black ghost knife fish? Anybody have any advice for me? Please help thank you!

1. They grow fairly quick up until they reach around 8". Then they will grow very slowly. Think I got mine at 3", and he was 8" about a year later I think...
2. Possibly. Had mine in a 10-Gallon until it reached 5", then moved it to a 60-Gallon once I had the funds.
3. I kept mine in with a large Oscar(13" Male) at 8". No issues. There were also a few other monsters, but I'll leave them out for now. :D
4. Depends on the Oscars themselves. I've seen Oscars that would tear any fish to pieces, then I've seen Oscars that wouldn't hurt a fly. Like I said, I didn't have any issues.
I lost my original that I had for about two years, maybe longer, after a filter died one night. Got a new one at 3" about two weeks ago, and is currently in a 10-Gallon until he grows larger. Than, like the last one, he will be moved to the 60-Gallon. :D

In general, they are slow growers. Maybe averaging about a half inch a month?

As long as you keep up on the water changes and have good filtration it shouldn't stunt their growth. 10g is pretty small and will out grow it pretty quickly even by their growth standards.

Oscars may be tough on the Knife especially if the Oscar's been in the tank for awhile and putting any new fish may be a challenge with them.
However, I know there are always exceptions to the rules and maybe you have a really mellow Oscar. At that point, I'd say you can try at 7"-9"

BGKs are very fun to have around. They are very interesting Knives. Check the Sticky and do a search on Black Ghost Knives on the forum and you'll find plenty of info on these guys;) They definitely love their bloodworms:)
