What are typical bgkf growth rates?
I've had mine for 3 months, he's about 7-8 inches now. When I bought him maybe 4-5. He looks double in size and much wider due to his growing anal fin.
I had been under the impression they were slow growers, but this guy I see everyday and I'm shocked by his growth.

Does anyone else have similar experiences?

I'm considering getting him a larger tank but I literally just moved and don't want to mess w the tank too much just yet as he's still settling from what was a less than ideal move.

I was considering getting a longer tank w a larger footprint rather than just a bigger tank since he utilizes mainly bottom water column, obviously not too shallow, but not unnecessarily deep.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks all.

Mine went from around 8-9" to 12-13" in about a year and a half on a pellet diet in a 6x4x2 tank with loaches, catfish, and balas. Not slow at all but getting thicker and wider rather than longer these last few months.

How big's your tank?
When I got my three maybe 4yrs ago, this forum suggested they grow quickly. My experience hasn't been terribly fast, but not slow either. They do seem to have "stalled" at 10~12", which makes sense as they err to sexual maturity like clown loaches (only less-so). Having said that I'm not seeing the theoretical horse-head adult male morphology (yet?) but they're also super-nocturnal with plenty of hides so I rarely get a good look. They certainly don't pose for photos

Mine are in a 6' 100gal,
with glass for a next-build on my Christmas list as gleeful clown loaches are a problematic addiction.
