hi everyone, i'm a newbie here but have had aquariums since early this year, still a beginner. Anyways I'm trying to find stocking ideas for my BGKs tank.

Here's the specs,
55gal
2 filters, AquaTech20-40 and Fluval good for up to a 40 (dont remember the model number)
300w heater
and an air pump (dont know the make of it)

Stocking:
The tank originally started out as a 20gal long with 6 albino cherry barbs and a dragon goby. since then i have moved the dragon goby to an 80gal bw tank.
After the dragon was moved I bought my Mac (BGK) the lfs i bought him at claimed they grow to 8 inches, later we found out different (stupid fish store lol) so we upgraded to the 55. Which is now the home of,

1 BGK
6 albino cherry barbs,
4 dalmation mollies
3 otos
3 kuhlli loaches.
and a small school of silver tipped tetras.

we got the tetras for free so i was to concerned about them going 'missing' as some people would say, and we did lose 3 of them. but other than that Mac the bgk hasn't touched any of the other fish.

Now I'm tryin to figure out what other kind of fish will be compatible with my current stock list. Kind of just to fill in the empty slot.

Any comments/advice would be appreciated. I'll try and post pics a little later

oh ya, i forgot to say my ghost knife is about 6 or 7 inches right now.

gratz. knifefish are awesome! anything small enough to fit its mouth is not recommended.

i havent had any thoughts on what to add really. seeing as how they will eat anything that fits in their mouths. i wanted like a medium size fish ( a bit smaller the mac) my boyfriend wanted something yellow. lol i couldnt think of anything. the silver tipped tetras have a hint of yellow...but they are just turning into a snack

golden gouramis or other kinds of gouramis. maybe a golden wonder killifish. my knifes get along well my my gouramis

I would have to go against you on the Golden Gourami part. They can become highly aggressive, and would attack the smaller community fish in the tank. Have mine with African Cichlids, and he stands his ground when up against them. Killed off the other two Gourami he was with as well.

Multiple types of gymnogeophagus and geophagus would make good tankmates severums, angelfish. As long as its not large and aggresive I think you will be fine, and I think your tetras are fine. My 12inch BGK hasn't touched any of my tetras, granted I would go for the medium sized species such as the ones you have. For yellow you could look for some rainbow fish, I think there is a yellow variant. I have lemon tetras myself and find them very appealing. If you narrow down the scope of what you want it would help (ie. medium sized cichlids, catfish, surface dwellers, etc.).

edit: I agree with hoyo on the golden gourami they can be rather aggresive

i've done my research on gourami's and i know they're out of the question. lol i thought cichlids would just eat the smaller fish.
