I have had this little fella for about 4 months. Had him in with my oscars and convicts. Have since moved everything around. However, while he was in with them, I noticed that most of his tail was missing!

I got really worried and was afraid I would lose him, but 3 months later, he seems to be perfectly fine. It even looks as though his tail is growing back. Is this possible??

Depends on how deep the damage is, but it can grow back. Convicts and Oscars can be a pretty aggressive mix. I'm more concerned about the Convicts than the Oscars. Convicts like to squeeze into hiding spots which the BGK may inhabit and bite it just to chase it off.

Thanks all for your comments. Yes, I have in now in an african community tank. No body is bothering him at all. His tail was completely bitten off. No white left on it at all.

However, I was watching him yesterday and am seeing some white on his tail. Which brought me to the question of it being possible for it to grow back.

The convicts have their own tank now, as do the oscars. Everyone seems to be perfectly happy.

oscars are fast growers (especially if you feed them meaty foods). and bgk are not. So by the time the oscar gets big, he might gobble up the poor defenseless bgk...
