hey could i put a bgk with some new world cichlids:confused:. i am talking 2 jds, 1 oscar, 3 firemouths, 1 green terror, 1 blood parrot, 3 silver dollars, 1 ornate pim or 3 pictus pim, still haven't decided on them, and 1 sa toadfish. would he get the crap beat out of him or would he be ok? i had a ck with some aggresive barbs and other fish before and was wondering if the bgk would be ok like he was?

i would not do it..... they are too rough a crowd for BGK in my opinion

ok thanks i will look at something else then, are their any similar fish that would be good and are from sa or ca? it is a 125 in case i didn't already post that

Your already overstocked mate. Bigger cichlids can do alot more damage than a barb can. If i were you id get rid of the parrot and the pim and wouldnt consider a toadfish unless you plan on going brackish and your upgrading tank size within the next year. Once your fish grow up you will see how much room they need.

sorry i should have said, the silver dollars where a maybe, along with the others, except, the jackdempseys, blood parrot, oscar, toadfish, and pimcats. i allready have thoose on hold or own them. the toadfish is still a possible no. he is freshwater, the tank will have 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon however. and when you do the math it is acutally not over stocked. 3 pictus get 6 inches. the silver dollars are a species that gets 5-7 inches. i have allready done the math repeatedly.

I house my BGK with a green terror and have had no problems.. The GT was 1.5 inches when i introduced him to the tank and the BGK was 6.. He is now 4 inches and the BGK has only grown to about 7.5 inches.. They both swim close to each other and never take any notice of each other..
This could be the old theory that fish that grow up together arnt aggressive to each other but im not sure..

I've kept my 14-15" BGK with several type of SA/CA cichlids with no issues. They seem to stay away from him(maybe something with the electric field). However beaware that a large determined CA/SA cichlid could tear apart the BGK if it wanted.

Hmmm im sure if your GT was hungry enough im sure he wouldn't mind to much he he. I would just add slowly my friend.... were all keepers so we know the importance of patience :D

Jus looked at your vid, v nice set up man! I wasn't a really a big cichlid fan because of the community barrier. Fair play mate.

Agreed!!! They are way to ruff for your shadowy friend. I would put him with angels and geos or something like that. With plenty of cover.
