Hi I was wondering if you guys would give me some info on bgk. Also so pics of your aquariums(I'm trying to find some good aquarium decor ideas.)

they tend to get 12-15" in aquaria, are completely blind, and eat mostly meaty foods. They will eat feeders occasionally but I recommend fresh cocktail shrimp as well as frozen krill. They need a 75-90 gallon aquarium, and can be housed with non-aggressive fish that are too big to be eaten. They like to hide especially when younger, and they love large PVC pipes.

For your aquascaping, natural is the ONLY way to go in my opinion. Bright colors and fake decor end up looking incredibly stupid. Get some white sand or natural light gravel (Sand is better IMO) a black or dark background, some driftwood and river rocks, and a few amazon sword plants.

I house my bgk in a hollow log look alike ornament. It looks pretty good. But most importantly it gives my bgk a place where it feels comfortable at. I also feed my bgk, blood worms, krill, sinking shrimp pellets, and also live earth worms. My bgk goes absolutely bonkers for the live earth worms. Just make sure that what ever you feed it, that the food isn't too large. Bgk's have smallish mouths and don't do too well with large food items.

I disagree with the statement that BGK's have small mouths. They generally keep their mouths closed to just a small apeture at the front; mine ate 2 full grown Red Eye Tetras before I realized it, when he was between 4 and 5 inches. I've seen it open fully--it's pretty big. Check out the link--you'll see a pretty big mouth in one of the photos.

Nothing looks better than a green plantscape, white sand and a jet black fish.

I recommend a piece of slate tilted up again the front glass. That will quickly become his favorite hiding spot and you will be treated to him all day long.

Thats an awesome idea, I will try it.

no matter how many places i set up for mine to hide, the only spot he'll pick is up behind the powerhead... :screwy:

give it at least 1 good place to hide, and try feeding it near dusk or after dark. I highly recommend moon lighting. other than that try a search, and you'll come up with more than you can handle
