far far away
I am looking to make my new 55 gallon tank into a bgk habitat.
the inhabitants are:
5 red hook silver dollars
1 bgk
3 pictus catfish

I am looking for tank ideas , how to make hiding spots for the black ghost knife. it would be appreciated if you guys could post pics of you 55 gallon tanks to get ideas and pic of bgk.

thankyou

Two things that I recommend.

First, lay a piece of slate up against the front glass. I think those ghost houses and lamp glasses look too unnatural. I am always greeted by my BGK in his slate lean-to. There are several other places he could hide, but this is his favorite.

Second, nothing looks better than a jet black fish over white sand and green plants. 'nuff said. Aside from that, he loves to play in the plants. They keep all my fish entertained and healthy.

i agree that 55 is way to small for a bgk in the long term because of the size they get but if he is small then he should be fine. in my tank have multiple peices of slate he loves to hang out in the cracks. you will be able to see him just fine if you arange them correctly. not that it matters, if i want to see him all i have to do is open the lid and he comes right up to see me (aka get food)

A 55g should be fine for awhile. They kinda grow slow.

he is 4.5 inches:nilly:

But he won't stay that way. I would just spend the extra cash and buy a 90g, that should work for the fish's entire life.

good cheap house: pvc pipe
pretty natural house: rock garage or clay pot.
I have used both for my CK but he really likes the pvc pipe a lot.
Or you could do a little bit of both and cover the pvc with peices of slate and sprinkle gravel over it, thats what I did and it looks great.

Mine is in a 75g tank, my setup is i put a pvc pipe there and a clay pot and added gravels. I made the pvc pipe to look like a cave, so i covered mine into the gravel and I also put some plants for the wild guppies and ghost shrimp to hide and incase we have an power outage.

Hey graham we had the same idea on the tank! :headbang2
