black ghost

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No hes a nocturnal fish chances are you'll never see him.

You can try to coax him out into the open by adding less concealed hiding places (those that you can see into). Otherwise, however, you'll probably never see the poor fish.

I dunno - eventually they start coming out more. I have a ~7 incher and, as long as the tank's lights are not on, he's all over the place.

alright thanks, i made a new spot for him to hide so we can still see him. should i worry about him eating? i usually drop some worms in there at night for him but i dont know if he's eating because its so dark.

A lot of BGK's can be hand fed. If you try holding food at the entrance to his cave he might take it from your hand. If not, dont bother, but if it does, keep doing it and it might come out further after a while and end up coming up to the top when you feed. It might not, especially if there are other fish in there that its a bit wary of, but its definitely possible, especially when the tank lights are off. My current one comes straight out the second the tank light goes off. I've had a few in the past that were hand fed.

Just get a good look at him every now and then to make sure he's not wasting away. They'll also eat things like sinking pellets, massivore, prawns, cockles, etc.

If you really want to see your BGK, buy a blue led moonlight. He will come out when the light levels are low yet you can still see him. Then, try to hand feed. Once he gets used to you, you can probably get him to feed during the daytime.

Give it more hiding places. This usually makes them feel more secure and so they come out more. Dimmed lighting, tannin stained water, plants and lots of wood all help. I have 5 of them and none of them hide.
