As the title suggests, would it be alright to do convicts in a black light tank? A buddy of mine wanted to know if it had any negative side affects towards a fish if he were to use a black light as a night light for his room. Would it prevent the convicts from sleeping or possibly have any other issues? It wouldn't be the only light on the tank, it would just be the only light on at night.

Should be fine as long as it's a decent quality black light, it should only produce UVA or even just near ultraviolet. If he's using it for his room, no big deal, if he's using it in his tank I doubt there's much point, there isn't much in a FW tank that fluoresces. Unlike marine, holy crap everything does, it's awesome.

Yeah he just wanted to have a black light so that he didn't have to flip on lights as he'd make his way to the restroom at night. Yeah he still planned on having a regular day time light for the tank so he could just alternate between the 2 depending on what time of day it was. So regular tank light during the day and black light at night. He just didn't want to use a black light if it was going to cause problems with the fish.

I figured it wouldn't cause problems but we both felt it was better to ask others before just doing so, just in case somebody knows something we didn't. Yeah he's getting my last convict I have and then he's going to get a female for him so he can breed em and show his kids the circle of life so to speak. Lol he's getting a beefy boi too, Lokir (convict) is already roughly 5in long and definitely likes to throw his weight around.
