Texas!
I bought 3 black kuhli loaches last week and placed them in my 125g tank with juvenile parrots and juve tx cichlid. I have yet to see them since. I have sand and rocks in there too. At this point, Im not sure that they are even alive.... Any idea's? I really don't want to rearrange my stones to find them... Do they burrow? Do you think my other baby fish ate them? Is there anything similar that will stay out and play more? more visual?

They naturally burrow....next time clean the sand you will probably see them!! Good luck

so will they ever reach a point that they play out in open at all?
if not, what could i add that would? what about dragon birch?

With larger cichlids in the tank I doubt that they will come out and play...but each fish is different. I would not suggest a bichir of any kind as your kuhli loaches would definately be eaten when the lights go out.

My only other suggestion would be to get another tank with community fish in it...a planted would be really nice.

They will come out only when and if they feel secure. My black khuli never hides and is normally searcing the bottom of his tank for food. When food hits the water he goes nuts! During a water change he swims up and down the glass like crazy. Once in a while he will sleep under some rocks but normally he is out in the open even when resting.

I got mine based on youtube videos showing them all around tank like you say. I am thinking of setting up a 30 gallon that i have for guppies and tetra's... Im guess that my loach' would feel safer in there... so i may just set that one up after all... now i have a good excuse too... hahaha any good reason to add a new tank to my home... :headbang2

Lol. Sounds like a good plan. Once you get this set up in no time they will understand it's safe and come out and swim everywhere (including up and down) banging into their tankmates which drives their tankmates nuts!

thanks for the insight, i will let you know updates. add me as a friend if you like. :)
