hi all, trying to treat an ill jumbo black moor. Friend of mine gave me him, said if I could cure him, he was mine. Otherwise, its going to be cat fish dinner.

i have him in a 6 gallon tank i use for molly fry with a sponge filter.

have been doing daily 50% water changed, adding aquarium salt each day and stress coat, and feeding the fish boiled peas. Have also been force feeding him flakes soaked in medication Metro+ and adding some of the medication to the water (on the suggestion of the employees at big Als)

it does not seem to want to eat, so i almost have to hold the fish and force feed him. basically i hold fish and put food in his mouth, and try to make sure he does not just spit it out. he is unable to swim, just lies at the bottom and moves around on his side. Q1: Am I feeding him the peas correctly? as otherwise he will not eat anything.

Q2: the guy at the store told me to soak some flakes in a medication called Metro+, feed him, as well as add some to the water after each water change. Over the past 3 days, the jumbo moor seems less bloated then when i got him. Am I doing the right thing?

Q3: how long should i wait to see if there is an improvement?:nilly: I have been at this for 3 or 4 days. also, what about partially draining his swim bladder with a syringe? (as I have read on other sites)

Thanks for the help. i am hoping that I can save this guy, would go great in my 40 gallon goldfish tank.

No, the fish is only increasingly stressed by this method. Don't forcefeed it if it refuses to eat.

Metronidazole can destroy most intestinal parasites so it seems you're doing the right thing.

I'd never try a syringe and damage its internal organs. Don't do this method. Simply keep observing and continue treatment until it fully recovers.
