Anyone ever seen or heard of a black color pictus catfish? Most pictus i've seen at lfs are silver-bodied with black markings. The one i saw at a lfs today seemed to have reverse coloring. It was all black and faint silver spots along the body. It was just a juvenile maybe 2-3" and the guy said it was a typical pictus but i don't really think he knows what he's talking about. It def wasn't an iridescent or channel cat as ive owned those before. Forgot to take pics unfortunately...anyone seen a pictus like this?

I never have. All the pictus I've seen looked more or less the same along the two morphs in the trade - Colombian and Peruvian. Pics would be great especially since the right ID may settle this.

This is the first time I've heard of a different-looking pictus, which was yesterday: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37979 and now you too :)

this makes me wonder if it was even a pictus at all. It was in the same tank as a pictus and did look quite similar to the other known pictus in the tank. I'll have to go back and see if it's still there and try to take a pic or vid. Maybe ill even just buy it as it was only priced at 5.99 lol...thing is i dont really need more fish at the moment but it was something different to see

I know what you mean... but at the same time, if you are a koi enthusiast, as implied by a beautiful diamond scale chagoi (?) in your avatar, a $6 fish that perhaps grows to only 6" is nothing, a droplet in the ocean :)

That's a karashigoi. Or the colour in the pic isn't the same as in RL :)

So, I went back to the lfs today to try and get the catfish i was talking about and luckily it was still there. Turns out it is marbled bullhead catfish; guess i should of looked closer at it and not taken the worker's word of it being a pictus. Now that i look at it more it doesn't even look close to a pictus. I guess i don't really know my catfish all that well lol but luckily the owner was in and he knew what it was. Not the rare black pictus i was hoping for, haha, but still a different kind of catfish i haven't seen too often in my area. Anyways, I picked it up just for the heck of it. :headbang2

It's actually a gin rin chagoi. I took that pic at a koi show i went to and the picture is unedited. The reflection of the light probably makes the pic a lot better but the actual fish pretty much looks like that in real life. It's pretty sweet looking, trust me :)

Well, what are you waiting for. Pics :D

Looking at the Koi's head, I see that it's a Chagoi. The ginrin on the body makes the fish look yellow! :)
You and I need to chat about koi. :D
Not many Koi keepers on here.
