black rat snake

haha i need one of those things for my shed! (if there isnt already a few in there). i saw a huge like 8-9 inch rat run out of my shed yesterday! it almost looked like a squarrel but it had the rat like tail and body! haha.

Some of them don't lose it. I had one for 12 years+, 7.5ft long, still had the markings. :)
 
thanks everyone. i was going to catch one, but i figured if i bought one it would be better.

then it was probably an intergrade. the true black rats don't keep any of their markings or colors.

Yes they can. Mine was captured in Southwestern Ohio (northern Cincinnati area) as a juvenile. It's fairly common for black rat snakes in that area to hold a vague pattern as completely mature adults. Or are you suggesting that the majority of black rat snakes in that region are not actually black rat snakes?
