Hello everyone. I'm on a military budget (this is Matt typing this), and my significant other is currently going to school full time. We have managed to save up enough to get the 360 tank setup with an incredible filtration system ordered, and it will be coming in somewhere around the 22nd of November.

We are definitely going to be purchasing a pair of good looking motoro pups that we will eventually try to breed. That said, we would also like to get a pair of attractive looking black rays. I've seen quite a few places that sell black rays, but the prices scare me! I am not currently able to spend $1k+ per ray :screwy:, but we are very interested in adding a pair of black rays to the tank.

Does anyone know of an attractive looking black ray species / hybrid that can be bred in captivity and doesn't cost an arm, a leg, and a firstborn child?

Thanks for all of your help. :grinno:

Go for a nice marbled motoro. I've seen some really nice ones go for around $350. Mike at h20 always has really nice rays.

I am certainly going to purchase a pair of motoros. My question is about black rays- is there a species / hybrid of black rays that can be bred in captivity and is reasonably affordable?

Not for under $1000 dollars no.

I have never even seen a "Royal" Marble for sale. I'de definetly buy one for $400 though.

black rays average about 1300+...all black rays breed in captivity but its on keeper to provide the proper conditions.. if your looking black rays you need to send a PM to csx4236 thats mike @ h20 custom aqautics... but if budget is a concern i would stick with marbled motoro's...

The words black rays and small budget do not go together!

Grab some nice marbles. I paid a little over $400 shipped for this girl and thought I got ripped off. Now Ive seen nice marbles like this with asking prices around $1000!!

Who knows, maybe with a few years of black rays coming out of Brazil which may or may not happen the prices on them might stabalize a bit and come down.
