Hi guys I have a couple of bags of black reptile sand from a while back and was thinking that it would look great as my substrate for my 75 setup I am starting,
As of now there is nothing living in the tank, anyhow this is black sand? I did about a teaspoon test to see how it would sink and whatnot, when in the water it floats for a moment (assumed as much), then groups together at the bottom creating little crystal like shapes, I was wondering if this type of reptile sand would be safe for my tank?
Would be a pain to get it all in start the tank realize that it was in fact not safe and have to get it all out.

What kind of fish are you going to stock that tank with? So you're saying that the sand clumps in clusters? I would assume that wouldn't look nice. Does the sand sink towards the bottom and look weightless when you brush your hand by?

Well like I said I only added like a teaspoon to a 75 gallon, and some of it floats the rest sinks, then it slowly all falls, and it looks fine, i have enough to completely cover the bottom, my main concern is if this isnt really sand more so some dye, that may release something into the water, and the clumping leads me to believe that its another substance that perhaps might harm the fish if picked up while they get food
, as for stock i want to do brackish
with some dragon gobies
bubble bee gobies
maybe some green spotted puffers
Colombian Shark
(not all of the above just some brackish fish i really like)
