Black Sand - Hmmm?

I wanna use black sand for my substrate in the new tank I will be setting up, however I do no want to pay $20 for 20lbs of Tahitian Moon Sand.

Will this work? I used white silica sand in my last tank.

Ive used ATI Black Diamond. Eight dollars for fifty pounds at Tractor Supply. You cand also get it in differnt grades as well.

I've got it in three tanks right now, been in for more than a year with no problems.

What is the stuff you have called? And are you sure it is coal slag?
