Just wondering what everyone has been paying for black sand? LFS has it for dollar/pound and I didn't know if I could find it cheaper.

I got the ebay stuff for 75 bucks shipped for 125lbs. It is crushed quarts and not sand but to the untrained eye it looks exactly the same. I have one tank that has the 3m brand bigger grade sand and it matches that stuff pretty close. So 60 cents a pound on ebay, shipped to your door. i got 125 lbs in 2 days at my door step. And it ended up being 150 lbs. It comes in 3 boxes that weigh 50 a peice.

Thanks i'll take a look. The guys at LFS said to use a pound of sand per gallon on my tank, is that about right? Seemed a little much but I wasn't sure.

i paid $30+tax for a 50lb bag of the 3m colorquartz black go to the 3m website to find a dealer local to u

Also how easy is it to keep it clean? I guess you coudn't vacuum it.

ITS EASY it will get sucked up in2 the siphon but only if u bury the tip into the sand but once its up in the tube just lift it out of the sand let the sand fall back to the floor and ur good... i will usualy fill my tube with sand and before it falls out move the tube and let the sand fall in a different spot in the tank so that it gets mixed around real good and get anything that maybe burried.. hope that makes sense..
