Is there any black sand that is readily available, and not ridiculously overpriced (like Tahitian Moonsand)

I've heard of the 3M colorquartz stuff, but I don't know where to get it.

You have a 75 right? You should only need about 30-40 pounds to get a nice covering of about 1/4-1/2".

Most of the pool supply stores can order it in.... around 30 for 50 pounds.
Bingo! 50 lbs. bags should run you between $16.00 - $19.00 each. Find a pool supplier who carries it. When they say they don't sell to the public, tell them you just need like 6 bags or so. They won't sell to you in large quantities (25+ bags), but will likely sell the few bags to you. If not, try the next place. I would suggest buying double or triple what you think you need. You can always sell it to other members.

I haven't found it that cheap in Indy...... I can buy it from a wholesaler but it's a hassel and only saves about 6 bucks a bag.

I do have a connection in IL for 16 a bag
