State of chaos
Today we are getting the tail end of a hurricane up here in NY as a weak tropical storm. But tomorrow my friend and me are supposed to go deep-sea fishing for Grouper (specifically Black Seabass) and Fluke. We fish waters over 40 feet deep and the current is ALWAYS strong. (the tidal rips attract baitfish, which in turn attracts Grouper.) But will the storm affect the fishing, even being so far down? I assume the crew knows what they are doing and can accommodate this, but still I worry. A 4 hour boat trip with no fish can feel like a lifetime to an angler on their first trip, like my friend.

If you go out of Sheepshead, the half day trips are a waste of time since you'll spend at least an hour traveling to and from the fishing site. Go full day, I've been on a few of the boats there and they usually don't disappoint.

uhhh...we went on the trip 4 weeks ago.
We went for Silver Snapper (AKA Porgy) and we did take 1 hr to get there. This little annoying kid caught a 12 inch Snapper and won the pool after the fish was fillet alive. Then he snagged 2 starfish and dried em out and kept them. Me and my friend tried to get him to release the Starfish by telling him that for each Star he kept his family would be fined $1000 and banned from fishing for a year. We tried but to no avail. :(

12 in snapper meaning porgy or a bluefish that wandered into the area? Kids will be kids I suppose, try getting through to the parents next time. You planning on going on the boats any time soon? I'll be in NY in December so I'll probably go for mackerel once or twice.

btw im 12 and my friend is 13. didnt want anyone to think that we were adults messin with an 8 yr old kid. ;)
Silver Snapper=Porgy BTW

you went an hour out to catch porgy?
maybe they are just not that abundant in your area but we can go out 5 minutes to a rockpile and catch 100 porgy in 10 minutes around 14" lol
it is always fun, but blackfishing is alot cooler and stripers are alot cooler than blackfish haha

agreed, seabass and fluke was much better but fluke season ends. fluke are strong! I landed a 12'' 2 mos ago that literally felt like i was being pulled into the water with a strong wooden boat rod. I couldn't belive it was a twelve incher! I thought it was a Bluefish
i pissed the whole boat was pissed opff when I released a 12" Seabass. :D
