Hello! I was wondering if anyone has had a black shark along with catfish together in the same tank? I have a TSN, a RTC and a albino channel cat in a 75 gallon! The cats are still pretty small. The black shark chases them around a little but doesnt do any damage. I just wanted a couple of opinions. Thanks

The shark will get eatin. Pretty much a 100% guarantee.

Thats my opinion.

:iagree:

I had black sharks in a 125 for awhile, and they didnt grow all that fast. RTC and to an extent TSN grow rather quickly and will make a quick snack of the sharks, and my channel was never keen on being picked on, so i would watch for him to fight back eventually.

:werd::shocked:They are right. a black shark will not mix well with TSN, RTC, gulper cats, mekong, or most any other catfish that grows larger than itself. Also advoid any fish that grow faster than it.
black sharks are somewhat aggressive, they ARE territorial and will chase other fish away from their area, they need atleast a Sq. foot to themselves, or more. Black sharks do mix well with lima shovelnose of appropriate size, and should be grown out together. Black sharks also get on well with pictus, cory's, CAE's. I have seen a L007 pleco battle with a 6" black shark and the vampire took scales off the black shark. I've also seen a black shark destroy a few beautiful gouramis, so pick tankmates wisely.

Um, get a 400 gal plus for the tsn and rtc, and leave the black shark in the 75gal. Your catfish should outgrow that tank in less than 5 months if fed properly. I have rtc and tsn that grew from 1.5" to 16" in just 5 months. I'd say your shark has a month or two, maybe three if he's super aggressive, but they will eventually dominate that tank, and will also outgrow your filtration and the tank in just months. Skip 125 gals and 180 gals and just go for something really large that you can house them in for a couple of years til you can get a nice sized tank for them or make an indoor heated pond. Good luck!

There's a channel cat too? Dang! You are a catfish man at heart, but you have to realize that even he can grow 3-4' long. My channel is 8 months and 17". To house the three of those cats together for life you are looking at 600 to 1000 gal tank minimum. Really depends on the footprint. Your filter will need to be at least 120 gal capacity.
