I posted an earlier thread asking about Black Tahitian Moon Sand and got a lot of responses. Now I'm curious about black silica sand. It is the type that is used for sandblasting. One popular brand is Black Diamond. Just wondering if anyone has used this sand as substrate and how it has worked out? How does it look? What is the difference between this sand and the Tahitian moon sand? Please post pics if available.

ive heard people have used that several times with no problems. go for it. its much cheaper.

do a search. there are other threads about this. I wouldnt steer you wrong. you can use it and the fish will be fine ;)

looks pretty good used it in my 55 gallon, i was nice along with black background.

where did u get it

Im using white silica sand at the moment, it looks really cool, but it stirs up really easy. I recently cleaned out my canister filter after running for about 3 months with the silica and there was about a 1'' layer of sand im my canister. I've also scratched my tank while cleaning it with a magnet scrubber, because the sand particles get stuck in the brush.

I have tahitian and I am going to buy some white silica sand tomorrow but Idk about the black. I wish I knew about it before I bought mine.
