I posted an earlier thread asking about Black Tahitian Moon Sand and got a lot of responses. Now I'm curious about black silica sand. It is the type that is used for sandblasting. One popular brand is Black Diamond. Just wondering if anyone has used this sand as substrate and how it has worked out? How does it look? What is the difference between this sand and the Tahitian moon sand? Please post pics if available.

Not 100% positive but I believe its an iron slag type sand. I know they have a sandblasting media called black beauty which is an iron slag sand media. I had the same question myself setting up my tank. I know the black beauty is a little sharper edged and wasn't recommended to me for fish that dig or have softer bellies and are in the substrate. I ended up playing it safe and going with the black Tahitian moon sand myself. Wasn't disappointed at all...love the stuff!
