at above poster: don't go selling him a overpriced product a simple search around this forum(DIY ideas) will show you almost every silicone that does not contain bioseal will be safe for aquarium use the silicone at big als is the same stuff at home depot same product probably same company but much cheaper
to OP im sure if you looked around at home depot you would find some just make sure it does not contain bioseal
And also a simple search on this forum will show you a few threads that discuss the BIOSEAL containing silicones.
To start off all silicone caulkings by chemical make up are mold and mildew proof. Plain and simple mold can not attach its self to silicone.
Way back when silicone caulking came out the general public was not buying it because of the higher cost compared to acrylic. So the marketing crew at GE came up with the idea to bash the acrylic guys because there product will grow molds and mildew. And GE's new 100% silicone caulking would not. So GE starting adding a drying agent that would evaporate out during the curing process and named it BIOSEAL so that they could get a copyright. And a edge up on the rest of the silicone manufacturers that were showing up in the market.
All 100% silicones are just that ----100% silicone
The GE2 line of silicones with bioseal are just as safe as any other 100% silicone.
I have 3 tanks currently running with GE2 bioseal silicone caulking in them. And my 125g tank/sump has 12 10oz caulking tubes of ge2 in it. I did a complete reseal with it, as well as covered the entire bottom of the tank with it, as well as resealed the sump tank, and also built rock/plant formations with it. It has been running for more than a year now with no problems.
The bioseal deal is one of the biggest myths going in the aquarium trade. People read bad info about bioseal being toxic to fish and then pass that bad info around like it is gospel. With out having any real world experience with bioseal containing silicones.
