When I first purchased my bichir from petsmart ( ) I noticed a small black spot on his back. He's grown at least an inch since I bought him, and the black spot remains. Is it normal? Maybe a birth mark of sorts? (For lack of better term.) He's active, healthy, eats like a pig, and gives all the cichlids in his tank a run for their money. If they get too close, he tries to bite them. Quite interesting. I thought I would be more worried about the bichir, but it seems to be the other way around.

Tank is as follows:

40 Gallon Breeder (36x18x16)
AquaClear 70 @ 300gph with 2 units biomax and foam block
Regent 250gph hob filter @ 250gph with carbon and fiberfill quilt batting
small rounded natural colored aquarium gravel
3 fake pieces of driftwood with silk plants
200 watt visitherm stealth heater

If you know what this might be, please let me know.

Thanks.

Its not unusual, consider it a slight blemish-Anne
