I'm not entirely sure where to post this, so hopefully this is the right place.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought two young orange chromide cichlids. A week ago, I noticed some tiny black spots showing up around the head, and since then, the spots seem to be growing in number. The fish seem healthy and happy otherwise, and are definitely growing. I feed them cichlid pellets, and occasionally give them thawed bloodworms, which they don't seem to care for.

I do 20%-40% water changes every week, and routinely test ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, which were all 0 today. It's a 55-gallon tank with no other fish. The temp is 80 degrees, pH is 7.8, and SG is around 1.5-1.6. I do have a few Mopani driftwood, which have been a slight pain in the ass--the water is always very slightly yellow-brown (although it seems to be improving), and one log in particular continues to grow that annoying white fungus. Otherwise, things seem to be stable.

Any idea what these spots are? They're tiny--the size of a pin head.

Thanks :)

i HAD a orange chromide that was reall nice and two weeks after i had it the spots startd showin up it got pale when my salt level got screwd up....

My belly crawler pike has the same thing, but I have no idea what it is. He was a nice gold color then he started slowly accumulating these little black dots all over his body, mostly around his head.

i dont know the extent of the black dots without a pic but there is such a thing as black ick, its rare on fish that aren't wild caught though if i remember correctly, i had a fish with it awhile back, and when i went to research there wasnt much out there, so i treated like regular ick with salt and high temp and it eventually went away, mite not be what you have, but you never know

diplopstomiasis?

From what I've seen of photos of that, the spots on my fish are smaller. Literally, they're tiny. I'll try to take a photo, but the damn fish move so fast that I normally can't take a good pic. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions!
