I just notice that my 3-inch clown knife fish has a black stripe on its top extending from the neck to the end of the tail. The clown knives I have seen have been solidly color all around save the spots. Is this a health issue or do some ck's have the black stripe on the top of their bodies?

If this is not normal, I am going to get a new ck. I've only had it a few weeks and just noticed the black stripe last night. I don't know how I could have missed it.

i beleive it is normal, it sounds like your CK is just developing its spots

It has numerous spots already. I really like my fish. It hides often, however, when I walk into the room, it comes out and swims in front of the tank back and forth looking at me. I just don't want it to be sick.

is there anyway you could get a picture?

A pic would help, but if it's acting normal, then it's probably just the development of it's markings.

I don't know how to do the pictures. Its acting normal, though. I feed my fish (currently a clown knife, 2 bala sharks, 1 red-tail shark and 1 senegal bichir) flake food in the morning and frozen blood worms at night. It seems as if they become a clearer color or something after eating the blood worms. Am I just imagining things or is this normal?

umm, some fish develop that from stress... but it could also be a natural stripe

I believe the fish may have had that from the start. Also, its the boss of the tank. The other fish get out of its way. I've only had the fish a few weeks and it yesterday, when I went to place it back into the tank after cleaning its home, it allowed me to pick it up! It just laid in my palm calmly so much that I thought it might be dead. When I put in back in the tank, it was its normal self. In fact, when I walk into the room, it comes out of its cave to the front of the tank and starts swimming excitedly looking at me. It comes out even when it is not facing me and I come in the room. It knows when I come in even when it doesn't see me. It chases away the other fish from the front of the tank and wants my undivided attention. :) That fish loves me.

I have the world's best ck! Has anyone bonded with their fish in just a few weeks like this? I spend a lot of time with him. I keep him and my other fish well fed.
