A guy at work is going to Texas over the 4th of July to his sister's wedding and the future brother inlaw has chartered a fishing boat for a 6 hour trip to go fishing for Blacktip shark and mackeral (spelling check please), is this the same as the black tips that are talked about on here?

Black tip reef shark? Yeah probably.

No, Its the atlantic black tip shark Carcharhinus limbatus. This is a much larger shark than the black tip reef shark that most people here talk about. The black tip shark is also very high strung and is quite difficult to keep in captivity. I do know one person here that has kept them at home. This would be a dream shark for me to try in keep down the road when I have a much larger tank.

Okay - for the record - The Blacktip Shark - Carcharhinus limbatus is actually a world wide species - found in the Atlantic, the Pacific & the Indian Oceans. This species maxs out at about 8-8.5ft in length. It's also due to it's high strung, tempermental nature, a much more difficult species to keep in captivity than the Blacktip reef is.

Yeah, black tips are something I tired in Dallas. I was sick of seeing black tip reefs everywhere. Sadly, mine were young and eaten by my green morays. :(

I'm going to be trying them again soon. They tend to spook easier and are much harder to get eating.

I tried the black tip in my lagoon awhile back. It did OK for a few months but neverreally settled in. It fed but not regularly and eventually it died.

yeah it seems like they are tough to keep but I know it can be done cause my buddy kept one for 2 years. What shape is your setup?
