Had one of the small female BTRs catch her eye on some of the artificial coral in the display. Pulled her for treatment in an off display holding pool. It took several weeks worth of treatment (both topical cleaning and antibiotic injections). Also took the chance to pull all the black tips from the small displays and relocate them to the main display - with far more room.

Here's the start to finish pics (instead of drawing it out while it happens, I waited until it was wrapped up so I could put all the pics together at once).

This is what it looked like when it first happend. The injured eye also caused a swimming issue, and she had rubbed around the eye and the tip of her rostrum raw.

Here she is up close out of the water that same day. The drip you see running down is liquid Vit E.

Pulled her twice daily for cleaning of the area and treatment of the eye to prevent infection from setting in. Also gives you and idea of how small she is, when she's resting in my lap. These are about 2 weeks into it... so you can see the progress in healing of the area.

Here she is this week, in the main display with another pup and a larger female (among other fish, sharks and eels).

Yikes, that made me cringe a little. Glad to see she's doing much better!!

Congrats zoodiver on another shark saved! That looked real bad, is she considered blind in that eye? Or was it a full recovery?

She can't see much out of that side. The lens is still attached, which is the biggest thing to watch with eye injuries like that. The pupil is elongated, so light isn't entering properly - which in theory would distort the image she's getting. I'm glad we could save the eye. I was riding the fence about removing it.

i'm an emt and i've seen some gross stuff but that made me cringe

Im sure this post has been answered all over this site, however, I have been unable to find it. So, what are the 3 (or however many) top books that provide the most accredited and useful information regarding shark/ ray tank care, ranging from smaller 3-4 shark species to larger, 5-7 foot shark species?

Ive caught a few threads where a certain book was mentioned, only to have its merit inconclusively debated. Thanks for your time and awesome job rearing that shark!
