Hello everyone I was wondering what would be a good/minimum sized tank for a black tip reef sharks. It would be great if you could give the dimensions and the gallons. If you could also say what shape of a tank would be best for a black tip reef shark that would be great. Thank you!!! :shark:

I'm not expert with salt or sharks but my guess would be 1,000+ gallons in an oval shape since sharks are constant swimmers.

My lfs has two in a 10000 gallon tank and they really look cramped, it is also a cylinder tank. the fish make the tank look really small.

I run a 12' diameter tank that is 5,000 gallons and it is too small for adult BTRs.
I would say 24-25' diameter round tank is your best bet. They don't need a lot of depth - 3 to 4' is plenty.
Just make sure you have enough filtration. Sharks are messy eaters.

My local mall had 2 24-36"ers in there 2500gal square tank....it made me sick to see them in there :(.... there noses were beaten and upturned within the first week. This may sound terrible but one was eaten by a 5-6' green morey and he was probably better off. Id like to get them shut down or beat in the caretakers nose for putting them in there. Sadly the tank also houses a 4' leapord shark and white tip reef that are not happy either.
