Black Tipped Reef shark ban

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Considering they don't breed in captivity im pretty sure its impossible for them to be considered invasive, tho they arnt native to California. It might be possible there is a ban on them but I haven't heard of it.

Well, from my understanding, "invasive" is a species that has been introduced into the WILD and has been able to reproduce/populate and start to smother out native species by competition for resources, not necessarily being bred in captivity.

i.e. cat snakes in Guam.

Right, I think they require a large body of water to reproduce tho thats what I was getting at...even if there was a river with a salinity high enough to sustain them.

Unless they think people are releasing them into the ocean but I'm pretty sure its way too cold there for them

All sharks of the genus Carcharhinus are illegal in California. This includes the blacktip reef shark (I almost cried when I found out I'd probably never be able to keep on if I decided to remain in this state).

It clearly says "(Freshwater Sharks)", and to my understanding the blacktip reef shark cannot live in freshwater. However, the bull shark, which also belongs to this genus, can, and this is probably why they banned it.

PS: I love how the game and wildlife official seems to never ever have encountered the idea of a water change by siphon.
