Alright, so I finally got around to buying my one little front two new friends, so I now have 3 pretty little baby fronts... (yay for beginning my colony!) AND I just bought a 300g for my big cats and oscars SOOOOO
I now have a 75g free for my little fronts, but I was wondering what substrate to use.

Im torn between white or black sand? I have black sand substrate in three of my tanks and absolutely love it! But I've noticed most people seem to have their fronts on white, and it still looks good. So my question is whats your preferance and why? Does one pull out the color in the Fronts better than the other?

Pics of your set ups would be fun too ;)

in my experience, black substrate makes their shades a lot darker than they have been in white, as compared to other fish on black sub.. blues have always stayed close to the same, but the whites have usually turned to greys in black sub.

Awesome, thanks for the info. So they will have more "pure" or contrasting colors on white?

i'm just speaking for burundi, but mine had MUCH whiter hues in the white sub, than in the black, over time, and completely different than the dark, stressed colors.

as for the pure, your guess is as good as mine, never been to lake tang!

ah... well I have what i believe to be burundi so that works! :D haha

awesome man. i had a buddy who had congo and mobas in black sand and they were all dark as hell, the females were almost black. still always a great community choice whichever sp.!

I agree when I see fronts on black substrate, it makes the fronts look dirty b/c the white does not look so white - at least to me. I like the white/tan color better. Its really just a personal prefrence kind of thing. Black does look really nice though- I just dont like it with fronts.
