Has anybody used black walnut wood in an aquarium? I'm boiling some out now but it seems to be exceptionally packed with tannins. It's been over a week and water still comes out red as blood every time. Do you think the toxins will be out before the tannins? Should I just keep boiling? It's actually a reclaimed crock pot. So almost boiling, but not quite. Any word on black walnut?

Most saps are not soluble in water which i why i almost never worry about what type of wood im using for a tank. That being said too much tannins can cause a rapid drop in the pH of your aqaurium which means you may want to boil the wood some more until the tannins are more manageble.

assuming it's not rotting your fine.

The link you posted also says that the toxin breaks downw hen exposed to water so i wouldn't worry.
