Okay so I'm using fluval stratum substrate. Rinsed it a few times in a bucket. Put substrate in then water (new tank) using a syphon to avoid kicking up the substrate.

The water is now almost black, can't even see my hand unless its against the glass. Is this normal? Or should I have rinsed it out more? Been about two hours and water is still really dark. Will it settle in a few hours? Help??

Fluval stratum is my opinion is junk, it doesn't contain any nutrients unlike ADA aqua soil, and should be rinsed before use at least I rinsed it when I tried it. Last week I decided to give ADA aqua soil a try, and ordered a 3l bag of Amazonia for $18 + free shipping, set up my Aqueon Evolve 4 two days ago and the water is crystal clear. Here's a couple pics of my Evolve 4 right after I set it up, and the water was a little cloudy but cleared right up the next morning.
