ive recently started in the hobby of arowanas and have been doing DAILY reading on them. And ive read in a few places now where it talks about putting in something to make the water black?? I’m trying to verify if this is true and what do you put in the water to accomplish this. Also what benefits are there to doing this?

Thanks.

What are the benefits besides simulation? Help with the current temperament?

correct me if im wrong boys but its just to help calm the aro and keep him less nervous and skittish. mine was like that at first but i didnt want to dye my water. i read somewhere to just dim the lights. worked great...

it reduces the pH and has extracts from things that are found in blackwater and even "whitewater" habitats.

Do ketapang (sp?) leaves work for all species of aro?

Has anyone used it for say, dats or polys?

Could anyone post a picture of there tank water with the additive in it?

sodium chloride (salt) works better.

these blackwater additives do absolutely nothing to the rock hard san diegan water we have. You would just be wasting your money.

i beg to differ :screwy:, i trust the ancient wisdom of most singaporean asian aro breeders who swear by the ketapang.... even Koji agrees on this

i would agree SUPER HARD WATER!!! im using peat right now it helps a little
