I got a piece of bogwood a couple of months ago, this gave me a month to soak it before I collected my wolf, but it is still leaking tannins and after a couple of days it still turns the bucket of water tea coloured, I bought it to cover up an ugly piece of PVC where the wolf lives and just wondering if the tannins will be harmful to the wolf (because I know they effect pH) but I do want the tank to look its best!

The tannish effect from the wood never go away, I got some woods for 3 or 4 years and they still leak out the tannish effect, It does lower PH over time but the tannish color harmless to any fishes in fact some fishes actually love it. You can take out the wood and boil in hot water for 15+ minutes it will reduce the leak out tannish color to very light level.

Monitor your PH. If you notice any precipitous drop, you can add aragonite as a substrate or in the filter to buffer the effect. The color itself won't harm the fish, the concern is that the PH will crash and shock your very expensive fish.

Thanks for the replies, think I will play it safe and not add it, I do have plenty of wood in the tank anyway! Prefer ugly pvc to a stressed fish all day long
