black worms and plant/fish/invert compatibility.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well just upgraded my planted tank from a 20 gallon long to a 40 gallon breeder. In doing so I couldn't find any worms left in the substrate. I suspect my rainbows went around eating them when they'd stick their heads out to gather food from the water column. I'll wait for this tank to become more established before introducing black worms again and update this thread as to the progress.

If you have fish in your blackworm tank, they will feast 24/7!

Honestly I think the ghost shrimp were worse than the rainbows, everything else in the tank is vegan. The ghost shrimp on many occasions could be seen hunting, searching, finding, and eating buried blackworms. I thought they might out reproduce the fish/shrimp but I was wrong.

Vegan fish!! cool. No milk or scrambled eggs for those fish!! haha.

You'd be surprised how many herbivore fish will eat animal protein given the chance!!

the tank has a hillstream loach, twig catfish, 2 red shrimp, 2 ghost shrimp, 6-9 1/2" bristlenose plecos, 3 Malaysian trumpet snails, 3 nerite snails, 9 dwarf neon rainbows, and 5 celebs rainbows.

I wouldnt be surprised if your pleco had something to do with it too..,since my pleco actively seeks out food once the lights go out...
