So my LFS had a ton of live blackworms and I grabbed some as a treat for my fish. They are all tearing them up like crazy. Should I be concerned about parasites or disease transfer with them at all since they are fully aquatic?

I removed them from the fish stores water imediately and put them in a cup of my own tank water dunno why it didnt strike me that that water may have had something in it for almost two weeks...

Thaughts?

It's always the dead ones you don't feed. Never known too many issues with live black worms.

Cool just did a bunch of reading on them siince my fish seem to like them so much (Bichirs and Cichlids alike, even the plecos chowed down what they found) May go ahead and dedicate a 5 gallon with a small sponge filter and airstone to a culture of them and see how it goes

I've been feeding live blackworms on and off whenever I can get them and I don't see any problems with my fish. Only thing is I feed them constantly, my fish tends to ignore the flakes and pellets. I read online that they can drown if the water is too deep. I keep the water line just so it covers them like 1" and change the water everyday with cold water. Seems to work for me this way.

live food are some of the best food you can feed to your fish. i been feeding live blackworms for like 10 years without any problems. just use common sense and keep them healthy with frequent water change if the water gets cloudy. and never feed dead smelly ones. if the worms starts crawling out on the sides. its a sign the water quality is bad. they are fairly easy to care for. just use a container/tank and use a pump or filter. make sure there is high oxygen in the tank and they wont die. room temp is fine. dont leave them out in the sun. i throw in a grip in my tank. and they hide under the substrates and can live till my fish eats them. live blackworms are my fish staple diet.

You are playing with Russian roulette. Live food might be ok most of the time, but all it takes is once...I always stick to quality dry pellets.
