Blackbelt Cichlid

Does anyone own one? How big is your blackbelt? Also are they real responsive to their owners ( Like swims to the side of the aquarium to say hi and recognizes you as the owner )?

While they are not the meanest or most aggressive cichlid ,they think that they are!!!They are 1 of the more prettier cichlids,but once they get to a certain size (4-5 inches) it is very hard to put new tank mates into thier tank.Constant harrassment usually leads to the death of the new fish(or the Blackbelt)Best kept with larger Oscars,Dempseys,etc.They do prefer "greens"in thier diet,i used a veggie pellet made by Hikori.Best colors are between the size of 4-8 inches,once they get bigger thier colors tend to fade.All in all a nice cichlid to keep.

They are ok in a large tank they will be peaceful but don't take anything from other fish. they can get about 13-15 inches & are heavy bodied. Veja maculacauda are responsive like most large cichlids.

I've always wanted one, and from what I've read and seen, they're tough cichlids but THEY'RE SO COOL.

You should be able to get them for cheap I have two and will have three when waldo gets back from germany... heres a pic of female
