Is a blacklight ok for night view its very dim, and I feel it simulates night, but I'm wondering if it would just be better to get a lunar light. Or if there the same thing

IMO. to much heat and to much UV. Go with the reef lunar lights or the blue sleeves for a flourescant.

Red light works real well. The fish won't realize it's on and do their normal nocturnal activities plus it lights up the aquarium better than black light. I don't remember who makes it but there is a red sleeve made fo flourescent light bulbs.

I touched down on this in another thread about lighting..

Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember learning along the way that pro-longed exposure to black light will actually harm the eyes of the fish, and cause un-wanted stress.

I always thought it would be cool to set up a black light themed tank, until someone told me that..

That is the uv, it isn't good for your eyes either, and they generate a lot of heat
