so i was getting some playsand today for one of my tanks and i saw that they had black sandblasting sand... and was wondering if i could use that...?

the only thing is... it contains low levels of silica

anyone ever use try it? its only like 8 dollars for a pretty big bag

If it is black, it is likely "Black Beauty" which is largely iron slag. The particles have very sharp edges and of course, being iron, it will play havoc with your parameters.

It's too bad since it is actually a pretty sand.

I would check with the supplier to be sure before buying any.

i dont know much about sandblasting sand but i read the back of the bag and all it said was what it was used for and that in has low levels of silica which i know removes oxygen... but i dont think it lasts forever that way or if it would even matter underwater.

and i dont have a tank i was gonna put it in yet so i cant tell you what i would use it with...

btw CLDarnell you live in Omaha NE? thats like 2 hours west of des moines

i think they have menards there and thats where i saw it... if that helps
